RARE 1916 WWI US Navy Military War Telegram Lot US Rep AP Gardner FDR Roosevelt
This listing is for a rare collection of original WWI Telegrams from 1916. The two yellow telegrams were sent from US Representative Augustus Peabody Gardner to FDR while Roosevelt was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. The telegrams are asking for information about upcoming naval maneuvers with 25 battleships. The first was sent August 21st from Massachusetts and the second was sent August 24th from Belfast, Maine. The response came on August 21th from the Secretary's Office of the Navy. The response discusses using 2,000 civilian volunteers for the manuevers, which would help the establishment of the naval reserve.
