Original WWII 1945 Japanese Surrender Ceremony Documents USS Missouri + Articles
This listing is for a rare collection of items related to the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II. The rarest piece is an original copy of the surrender ceremony procedure that was held aboard the USS Missouri on Septemer 2nd, 1945. There are 11 pages stapled together (the last 3 pages are loose) that show exactly where each person was to stand on the deck of the Missouri for the ceremony. It also lists the order of signings, the times of arrival for each representative, each person who was involved, and more. This piece was left in a home that was purchased in Vermont. The sellers were both WWII Navy veterans who were involved with the Bikini Atoll tests. We are also including two newspaper articles. One is from August 23, 1945, and describes the choice of the USS Missouri and Tokyo Bay for the site of the surrender. The other article is from the Los Angeles Times dated November 11, 1946. There is a somewhat disturbing photo of several Navy Admirals cutting into a cake in the shape of an atomic mushroom cloud. The accompanying article describes one pastor's reaction to this cake and the subsequent response. These pieces are in good overall condition with yellowing, creasing, and wear from age. Please see the photos below and contact us with any questions before bidding. We have a low opening bid price, so don't miss your chance to win!
