This listing is for a very rare lithograph by the late artist Seymour Rosenthal (1921-2007). It is an artist's proof of 'The Seltzerman' that he hand colored with watercolor paints. It is titled and signed in pencil by the artist and is also inscribed underneath his signature to his friends David and Bernice. The inscription reads, "To David and Bernice. May time and health always be with you. Love from Seymour and Frances". Bernice is only selling this piece because she recently moved to assisted living and does not have the space anymore. On the back of the frame there is a personal greeting card from the Rosenthals to David and Bernice dated 1994, as well as several articles about the artist. The print itself measures about 14" x 21 1/2" and the metal frame measures about 25 1/4" x 19 1/2". It is in excellent condition with some scuffs and scratches on the frame. We have a low opening bid price, so don't miss your chance to add this to your collection!
Seymour Joseph Rosenthal was born and raised in the Bronx part of New York City in 1921 and was a child of the Great Depression. He was a self taught artist who started drawing at the age of 5 and didn’t stop until his dying year. He had a great passion and respect for the struggles of working Americans as well as a deep love of his Jewish faith, both of which are amplified in his renderings. He is survived by his beloved wife Frances, a daughter, a son, and four grandchildren. His works are in the permanent collection of various museums around the world such as the N.Y. Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Technion Museum in Haifa Israel.
