This listing is for a very rare piece of original cartoon art by the great Al Jaffee of Mad Magazine fame. This piece was never published or copied, so it is truly one-of-a-kind. The seller (our client) was a captain at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C. when the base had it's 70th anniversary celebration in 1988. Al Jaffee was stationed at Bolling from 1944-45, and came back to the base for the celebration. Jaffee took this photo (taken by our client) and drew some classic overlays for publication in "The Beam" (the Bolling and AFDW newspaper). The AFDW commander had flown F-105 "thuds" in Vietnam and felt that this cartoon made fun of the F-105, so it was never published. Our client was allowed to keep the artwork since it had been his photo. The overlays show Alfred E. Neuman in the cockpit with smoke and sparks coming out the back of the jet. Al Jaffee himself is waving the checkered flag. He signed the overlay on his own chest with his dates of service at Bolling. It is nicely matted and framed, and ready to hang. This is an unbelievable piece for the Al Jaffee or Mad Magazine collector. It is signed on the back by our client, along with details of the history of the piece. We have a low opening bid price, so don't miss your chance to win!
