Antique Pre Columbian Mayan Head Stone Skull Carving
This listing is for a rare Pre-Columbian Mayan head or skull carving. The head has round eyes with trace pigment remaining. There is some red in the eyes and quite a bit of yellow still visible. Based on the features it most likely represents a skull with bared teeth. The piece has been authenticated by Norman Hurst, who estimates the date at somewhere between 550 and 950 AD. According to Mr. Hurst, the notch at the bottom was possibly put there so it could be attached to a yoke when playing the Mayan ball game. The seller acquired this piece many years ago in Antigua, Guatemala. It measures approximately 6.5" inches wide by 8" inches long by 1.5" inches thick and is in very good overall condition. This listing has no reserve price so place your bid now!
